HISTORY
In 1852, an American inventor, Francis Wolle, developed
first paper bag machine. Later in 1871, Margaret E. Knight evolved a machine
that can produce flat-bottom paper bags. She is known as "the mother of
the grocery bag". In 1883, Charles Stilwell invented a machine that can
produce square-bottom paper bags with pleaded sides making them easier to fold
and store. In 1912, Walter Deubener used cord to strengthen paper bags and
added carry handles. Over the time, several inventors came and improved the
production of paper bag.
ADVANTAGES OF PAPER BAG-
- Use of paper bags have reduced the use of plastics.
- These are bio degradable and hence help in sustainable development.
- It can be reused and recycled.
- It can be a boom for small scale industries. As the set up and use of paper bag machine is very easy and along with raw materials are easily available and are cheap also.
- There are also some disadvantages.
- Comparatively less strength compared to plastic and cloth made bags.
- As made of paper, somehow responsible for deforestation.
